Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Giving

Operating & Benevolence Fund

Your generous contributions underwrite ministries and respond to benevolence requests that make a difference in so many lives. By sharing your blessings, Second Presbyterian is able to make our facilities available to more than 50 groups each year and it's been determined that 75% of building usage involves activities beyond the church itself. We have a deep and long-standing relationship with Monroe Harding Group Home, Room In The Inn and a number of other well-respected ministries.

Your giving also supports staff compensation; facility maintenance; office expenses,  and ministries within the church, such as children and youth ministries and programming.

Capital Building Fund

History of the campaign, why it exists

•    Our previous church structure burned in 2003.
•    The congregation reoccupied the rebuilt structure in 2006.
•    The replacement structure, which we now occupy, cost $5.6 million to build.
•    Session decided to fund the difference between insurance proceeds and the newly rebuilt campus by obtaining a mortgage loan.
•    Payments on the loan (principal plus interest) have been raised via separate, three-year capital campaigns since initiation.  We estimate that we will make our final payment in December 2024. Any surplus in the capital fund will be applied to future building projects.

Year-end Giving to 2PC

All of our gifts are tax deductible, of course. But as the end of each year approaches, many of us make additional charitable donations as a way to provide meaningful support to the church.

Ways to give at year-end include:

  • Gifts of Cash: If you itemize, you can lower your income taxes by simply writing a check on or before December 31 each year. If your envelope is postmarked by December 31, your gift qualifies as a current-year deduction.

  • Qualified IRA Distribution: People over age 70½ can give up to $100,000 each year directly from their IRA to a charity and avoid paying income taxes on the money.

  • Real Estate: Gifts of real estate must be coordinated with the church ahead of time since there are specific requirements to be considered. For example, any gift over $5,000 requires the donor to obtain an independent appraisal for tax purposes.

  • Gifts of Stock: If you own stock, it is often more beneficial to contribute stock than to contribute cash because of a twofold tax savings. First, you can avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in stock value, and you receive an income tax deduction.
